Setting up RLAB VPN on the Mac
To access RLAB resources offsite
THIS SERVICE IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS OF CASE, CEP, CVER and STICERD BASED AT THE LSE.
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows your computer or mobile device to behave as if it is connected directly to the RLAB network enabling SECURE remote access to your networked drives (J: or Z: space)
Creating a VPN connection on the Mac (OS X and above)
The VPN connection is managed by Pulse Secure software.
Click on the link below to download the Pulse Secure client.
Unzip the file and mount the .dmg file. Double click the .dmg file to extract the installation package. Double click PulseSecure.pkg to install the application.
Setting up the client
- After installation the Pulse Secure icon will appear on the menu bar. Click on the icon and select Open.
- In the Pulse Secure window, click the "+" button to add a new connection.
- In the window that opens enter the following information:
Type: Leave as Policy Secure (UAC) or Connect Secure (VPN)
Name: Enter a meaningful name for the connection
Server URL: https://vpn.lse.ac.uk/rlab/pulse
Click on the Add button to save this connection.
- You should now see the VPN connection listed within the client.
- Click on the Connect button and you will be prompted for your RLAB credentials.
For User Name type RLAB\username where username is your is your RLAB IT account username. Enter your RLAB IT account password and click on Connect.
The VPN should establish after successful authentication and the client is configured for use.
- Pulse Secure will load each time you start the Mac and the icon will appear in the top right-hand corner in the menu bar.
- To connect to the VPN again, click the Pulse Secure icon, select the connection name (in our example LSE-RLAB) and click Connect
You will see a successful connection in the menu bar.
- Now you are ready to connect to your J: or Z: drive
To disconnect from VPN simply click on the Disconnect button.
