Connecting to your J: or Z: drive (Mac)
THIS SERVICE IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS OF CASE, CEP, CVER and STICERD BASED AT THE LSE.
Members of staff in CASE, CEP, CVER and STICERD based at the LSE are given a networked user-space in which they can save files and documents.
- For CEP/CVER users this is your J: drive.
- For CASE/STICERD users this is your Z: drive.
Connecting to your J: or Z: drive
- If you are connecting remotely make sure you have already connected to the LSE network using VPN.
- Make sure you are in Desktop - so that you can see Finder at the top of your Mac screen. Click on Go > Connect to Server...
You can also use K from the keyboard to bring this option up.
- A Connect To Server dialog box will appear.
- CEP and CVER Users (CASE and STICERD Users jump to step 5)
In the Server Address box type:
smb://rlabf.rlab.lse.ac.uk/username$ - where username is your IT account username.
In our example the username is smithj for fictitious user John Smith. Therefore the pathname is smb://rlabf.rlab.lse.ac.uk/smithj$.
CASE and STICERD Users
In the Server Address box type:
smb://rlabf.rlab.lse.ac.uk/firstname+firstletter of lastname$
In our example for fictitious user John Smith, the pathname is smb://rlabf.rlab.lse.ac.uk/johnS$.
- A dialog with the message " You are attempting to connect to the server..." will appear. Click Connect to continue.
- You will be prompted to enter your RLAB username and password. Click on Connect As Registered User. Enter your RLAB credentials.
- Click on Connect to finish.
- Your J: drive or Z: drive should now appear ...
- ... and on the Desktop an icon for your J: or Z: drive should be present
- To disconnect, drag the J: drive or Z: drive icon to the trash can, which will change to an eject icon, and the drive will dismount after a few seconds
