LSE Research Laboratory (RLAB)

The Research Lab opened in April 2001 in a unique research facility designed as part of the complete refurbishment and redesign of the Lionel Robbins Building Library by Foster and Partners.

It was largely financed by a grant of £6.6m awarded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) with money from the government and Wellcome Trust's Joint Infrastructure Fund.

The research community of the Lab numbers more than 260 academic, research and support staff, associates and postgraduates. This constitutes one of the largest concentrations of applied economic, financial and social researchers anywhere in the world, a critical mass large enough to turn flexibly towards the analysis of important social and economic problems as they arise.
