wifi Connecting to the LSE Secure Wi-Fi using Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or 7

windows There are TWO methods of connecting to the LSE wireless, lsebasicwifi and lsesecurewifi.

This document describes how to connect to the lsesecurewifi network via the wireless access points on campus and in LSE halls of residence using a laptop running Microsoft Windows.

The main benefit of using lsesecurewifi is that sensitive information (such as passwords) are safer as the connection is encrypted.
sophos Staff and students who wish to connect their own computers to the LSE network are required to install and regularly update antivirus software.

A network installation of Sophos Anti-Virus software which updates automatically is available free of charge for current LSE staff and students.

To connect to the LSE Secure Wi-Fi:

  1. Connect to lsebasicwifi or log onto a LSE Public PC

  2. Download the LSE Secure Wi-Fi connection tool

  3. Once lsesecurewifi.exe has been transfered to your laptop, double click it (Please be patient whilst it loads)

  4. Windows Vista or Windows 7 users may receive a UAC prompt to authorise the tool

  5. Enter your LSE network username in the username field and your LSE Password in the password field

  6. Click Start Setup in the lower left hand corner

    lsesecurewifi.exe

    A green progress bar will appear. Please be patient whilst the tool configures your laptop, it may take up to 1 minute

  7. A pop-up window will appear confirming configuration was successful. Click Finish

  8. Click Exit on the LSE Secure Wi-Fi connection tool
