Anti-Virus Software

Sophos Anti-Virus Software

If you are a CURRENT student or member of staff at the LSE you can download Sophos anti-virus software for FREE.

Sophos is available for Windows and Mac users.

Sophos replaces McAfee Anti-Virus Software at the LSE.

If you installed McAfee on your own computer under the School's licence you must now remove it, (as it will be out of date and will not work properly) and install Sophos software.
  • SOPHOS ---- Download directly from the LSE website
You must be a CURRENT student of staff member of LSE.

  • Staff and students who wish to connect their own computers to the LSE network ARE REQUIRED to install and regularly update antivirus software. LSE strongly recommends the use of Sophos Antivirus, available free from to all current staff and students.

This software will enable IT Services to automatically update Antivirus software throughout the school and minimise the risk to all network users.

  • Download the Sophos manual to find out more:
Sophos Manual (Windows) | Sophos Manual (Mac)

McAfee Stinger

Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It IS NOT a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather an emergency tool to deal with an infected system.

For full anti-virus protection use a full, professional package such as McAfee VirusScan - freely available to current LSE staff and students.
See below for details.
