Design

Given the importance of face-to-face interaction, there is huge value to be gained from concentrating expertise in a single space in the way that is achieved by the Lab.

Its large floor spaces are a mixture of sophisticated open plan workstations alternating with groups of closed offices, meeting rooms and conference suites. This layout allows researchers to meet easily and to spontaneously engage in discussion and argument. Their productivity is greatly increased by sharing knowledge on data and methodology and through easy access to excellent shared IT facilities, networked large scale datasets and on-site data management expertise.

The Foster design allows Centres to expand and contract flexibly to accommodate new projects and research visitors, and provides immediate access to the Library.
